David Thomas - Sound Design Consultant

David plays an essential role in developing and creating Raconteur’s approach to sound design across all its programmes and podcasts.

He has been behind some of the most memorable radio programmes of the last 30 years, from the ground-breaking 10-hour dramatization of War and Peace to The Lovecraft Investigations, the drama which launched BBC Sounds and became one of the world’s most popular podcasts. As a key audio supplier to BBC Radio, he’s worked on hundreds of iconic BBC comedy shows, documentaries and current affairs programmes which has won him BBC best Audio Drama four times and BBC Audio Best Sound Designer in 2016.

David was the first person to record audio dramas entirely on location, revolutionising radio outside broadcasts by ditching big trucks and replacing them with meticulously designed tiny mobile unit. He then went on to be part of the four-person team who designed how BBC Radio’s remote working would work during the 2020 pandemic.
